Letters Werkinesh Has Sent Us
We really enjoyed reading Werkinesh's first letter. She started her sponsorship journey with us in April of 2021. She gave us a good feel for her home environment and the fact that it's so hot! We can also see that water needs to be fetched and represents one of the most important chores some of the children have. Like Mekides and Solomon, she also wants to be a doctor. We were especially touched by her telling us to "stay safe". Coming from a child in a war torn country facing so many challenges everyday, she touched us deeply.
Her first letter to us was written on Jun 10th, 2021 but we didn't receive it until December 2021. This long delay is caused by the route these letters have to take and the impact of ongoing civil war in the region. Letters go by air, truck, bicycle, camel and foot to get to and from these rural villages.
Many of the children's drawings included what may be their home or school structure. This one also included the same looking tree that Solomon drew.
Werkinesh was one of the few children who were able to get two letters to us. This second one also includes a handball. We're not sure if what we saw in other children's drawings were foot balls or hand balls. What is clear is playing games is very important! We share her love for Mango!
